Thai Fishing Boats, Songkhla

Songkhla is situated between Songkhla Lake and the Gulf of Thailand. It is a picturesque place in lower South Thailand close to the Malaysia border. It has excellent beaches and natural scenery. Songkhla Lake is approximately 80 kilometres long and 20 kilometres wide and boat tours to inspect wildlife and island scenery are recommended.

Songkhla's history commences in the 8th C at the commencement of the Srivijaya Empire . It was once surrounded by a wall (1,200 metres by 400 metres) a part of which remains near the Songkhla National Museum.

The old town with the Chinese, Malay and Portuguese buildings. The waterfront piers and warehouses, the fishing boats and fish markets

National Museum Songkhla which was originally a 19th C chinese mansion. The museum is home to the art and archaeology of the lower south with emphasis on art and craft imported from China with and for the immigrant Chinese community
The natural beauty of (1) the excellent beaches, including, Hat Kao Seng, Hat Son On , Hat Kaeo and Hat Samila, and islands, such as, Ko Nu, Ko Yo and Ko Maeo

The excavations at Sathing Phra with its Srivijaya Empire ruins
Khu Khut Bird Sanctuary, a wetlands reserve with over 140 species of birds.
