King U Thong Ayutthaya

King U Thong Ayutthaya
- King U Thong created the Kingdom of Ayutthaya in 1351 at the age of 36. He was born in 1314 and died in 1369. Little detail remains today of his ancestry. Some stories suggest he was Mon, others that he was Chinese and that he came from any of Chiang Saen, Lopburi or U Thing settlement in Suphan Buri.
- King U Thong made war on his neighbours and tried by invasion, marriages and relationships to annex Cambodia (The Khmer Kingdom) Chiang Mai, Sukhothai, Nakhon Si Thammarat and the Malay Sultanates.
- His Ayutthaya rule was dissimilar to that of the Kings of Sukhothai in that in Ayutthaya Kings were deemed '' god kings '' (Deva Raja) to legitimize their rule. U Thong was to be the patron of all faiths as well as the incarnation of the Hindu God Vishnu. Buddhism, Hinduism and animism were amalgamated to satisfy all souls and consolidate power.
