The major tourist places of interest at Phi Phi are:
  • Boat trips to gain access to the numerous sea scapes and coast lines
  • The Cave Tham Phaya Nak [ Viking cave ] which is an enormous vaulted cave hollowed at its base by sea erosion and on the wall of which are ancient paintings of what appear to be Chinese junks
  • The sheer limestone cliffs, some reaching 300 meters [ over 980 feet ], the pristine white sand beaches and the coral reefs of deep bays such as Lo Samah, Maya and Ao Pilae
  • Ao ton Sai for its restaurants boating supplies and diving equipment supplies
  • Ko Phi Phi Don for its scenery
  • This area is in fact an archipelago situated in an area of 42 square Kilometers.
  • The main Island is Phi Phi Don which is an area of 28 square kilometers and which is the location for hotels and resorts.
  • It is mostly rugged high karst country especially from the west side but has two major twin bays with white curved beaches called Ao Lo Da Lam and Ao Ton Sai. This is the area devastated by the Tsunami.
  • However the more spectacular Island is Phi Phi Le covering 6.6 kilometers of inaccessible land mass but with astonishing cliff scenery and several inlets and their beaches.
  • The major attractions are the bays Ao Pi Le, Ao Maya and Ao Lo Sa Ma. One should also not miss the experience of circumnavigating this rugged Island.

Phi Phi Islands Weather
  • Phi Phi Islands have two seasons, the rainy season between May to December inclusive and the hot dry season from January to April inclusive. For tourists the weather and tidal information is very important. The tides influence when you can and can not boat tour to some locations. The tides also influence whether the seas are rough thus influencing if to go out and whether to use speed boats. The tides and weather also determine the clarity of the sea water for diving and fishing. During the wet season it is cloudy thus not good for photography and when it is raining it is not the best time for sight seeing. Hotels charge a premium for the good weather season as this is because people who know the region understand this is the time to be here and they compete for bookings.
