Major Tourist Places Of Interest At Si Satchanalai

  • Wat Chang Lom - Wat Chang Lom comprises a large Ceylonese style Chedi and is pictured above. At its base on all 4 sides are large elephant stucco sculptures, giving the impression they support the whole structure above them. On the terraced level above on all 4 sides are niches in each of which is a Buddha statue image. The structure is believed to date from the 13 th C. Originally it was surrounded by a moat. It would have stood in what was then the centre of the town.
  • Wat Chedi Chet Thaeo [ described and imaged opposite ]
  • Wat Nang Phya
  • Wat Khao Phanom Ploeng - This monument is positioned on the hill overlooking Wat Chang Lom. Access to it is by a steep stairway. Whilst the ruins are not so impressive, the spot affords excellent views of the ton layout below.
  • Wat Chedi Chet Yot - These ruins are of an ancient monastery built at the foot of the hills. The central Chedi is imposing and is surrounded by eight smaller chedis.

Wat Chedi Chet Thaeo
Wat Chedi Chet Thaeo
This Temple dates from the 15th C and was constructed to enshrine the remains of the ruling families. The major chedi is adorned by a large lotus bud crown and is highly distinctive of the Sukhothai style. To the front is a smaller version chedi with a niche enclosing a stucco Buddha image in meditation atop a coiled naga. The fenced enclosure also has numerous chedis in rows, thus giving rise to the literal interpretation of the name '' seven rows of Chedis ''.
