Phromthep Cape Phuket

  • Phromthep Cape is the southern tip of the Island of Phuket on the west side of the Island. Here visitors can park vehicles on the immediate north side and walk to the Cape. The more adventurous visitors can also climb down the Cape on pathways built over time by numerous climbers to the rock edges below the Cape on the very southern portions.
  • Phromthep Cape can be found by following the western side coast roads or driving south west from Chalong Bay.
  • Unfortunately the palms so well illustrated in the picture here have since been badly damaged by cyclone force winds.
  • On the peak of the Cape is a Museum, a small shrine and numerous street vendors. These attractions are insignificant compared to the natural beauty of the landscape, the vegetation and the ocean views. So one should not be distracted and continue with precious time to drive along the coast line in either direction.
  • A visit to Phromthep Cape should be planned as part of a day trip driving along the west coast to visit all the beaches. A visit during the day is recommended to see and enhance landscape but for those looking for sunsets the times to visit Phromthep Cape are 5.30 pm during December to February inclusive and from 6 pm during March to November inclusive.
  • The Thai name for Phromthep Cape is Leam Phromthep or Leam Phra Chao. These names can appear on signs or maps so should be noted to avoid confusion.
