Wat Saen Fang was established in the 14th century, but the architecture
dates only from the 19th century. The imposing gatehouse entrance has
naga balustrades.
The origin of the
Lan Na style viharn is of importance as it was the former royal hall of
Chao Kawilorot (reigned 1856-1870) and was converted for use as a
viharn in 1879. It displays elaborate carved panels of animal motifs on
the gable.
The Burmese style chedi is whitewashed and has pairs of
chinthe guarding each corner. The beautifully carved red painted ho
trai is situated in a pond and a bot constructed in 1910 displays
features of both Lan Na and Burmese styles with small kinnorn figures
on the roof ridges.
